USGA Movie Night: NIMONA
"What are you?"
"I'm Nimona."
This is just one of the many memorable quotes scattered within Netflix's animated feature film Nimona, which members and friends of USGA watched this past Thursday. It's a film made with plenty of heart, and it sure struck a chord among those of us in attendance.
Nimona is a story of love, friendship, and acceptance. The disillusioned honorable-knight Ballister reluctantly teams up with his pint-sized, precocious, pink-haired (somewhat blood-thirsty) sidekick Nimona to clear his name and save his kingdom. The film pulls its viewer through a wild rollercoaster of emotions, chock-full of endearing characters, a vibrant animation style, and a heartwarming message. Nimona themself said it best:
"Kids. Little kids. They grow up believing that they can be a hero if they drive a sword into the heart of anything different. And I'm the monster?"
USGA at BYU's mission is to "have compassion and to seek understanding through listening," and to create a "safe and welcoming environment" for everyone. Activities--- and movies--- like this one help us to remember why we're here in the first place. We seek to build community. "USGA welcomes you."
